Entertainment Portfolio

Finally found a story/concept for my entrance portfolio into Art Center's Entertainment department. I'm loosely basing it off of Dororo, a story about a boy whose Japanese warlord of a father sold to demons in a pact for power. And that's all I'll say about the story for now cause it's complex. Haha. But you should take a look at the live-action movie. Some of the effects are a bit cheesy, but the storytelling and cinematography is great.

Working on thumbnails now. As soon as I get a working scanner in order I'll have them up. One character at a time.

Work Stuff

I haven't really been working on any art lately.
Say for the graphic design related things I have to do at work now.
Even though it's not much too look at,
I feel like I have to put up something new,
that you can actually look at, and not just read.

The consistency of the images I used in the posters
(say the fruit for example),
were not very... let's just say... consistent. Lol.
But whatever.
:P

Yea. Kinda lame.
I should really get back into drawing traditionally especially.
I feel like my skill level is going to crap.

Busy Much

I've been super busy lately, but that's a good thing since I feel like I'm being a LOT more productive.

I just got a full time job at Fong's Graphics and Printing around two weeks ago. Wow. It's been that long already. At work there I've been pretty much been organizing and backing up ridiculous amounts of files, and now I'm working into making stock posters for them. Yay. :]

And just yesterday I just started working with the crew from RADisRAD (http://radisrad.com). All the guys are pretty chill, and it was fun talking to them and finding out more about them. I also got to watch them to screenprints on shirts and stuff. I only had one year of screenprinting class in high school, but we only did prints off of linocuts pretty much. But by working with Randy and the crew, I get to learn about printing on fabrics. And I got to help him out with his new line of characters.
(But shhh. That's a secret. :P)
Here's Randy's blog if you guys are interested. http://radisrandom.blogspot.com/

To Do List For the Summer::

1. Number One Goal: START BEING PRODUCTIVE!!!
2. Get a paying job.
3. Be a better trance DJ, build up library, and get more gigs.
4. Join the RADisRAD crew.
5. Draw a lot more and get better at traditional media.
6. Work on those Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skills.
7. Make a DJ logo for yourself, one for Elvin aka "Jellybeanx," and one for you together.
8. Make a logo for Conrad's "454 Productions" film company.
9. Make a logo for Kristen's "Game Meets Girl."
10. Work on Brian's t-shirt design for Threadless.
11. Get your driver's license.
12. Register for next term/semester classes at PCC, ACCD Night, and Concept Design Academy.
13. Build up portfolio for entrance into ACCD Entertainment Design in Fall 2010.
14. Help Cheng with his art-ness.
15. Work out more, and try and be not so skinny I guess.
16. Be a better freehander, and get to GOD status.
17. Sway a cute fobby Asian girl and make her yours. Win. :P

But yea. Life is pretty good coming out of high school. :D

On the Other Hand...

So high school is over and done with,
and summer started for me.
i started out with going out and hunting for jobs with a friend.
so far its been pretty fun and lame at the same time.
(the lame part was just getting rejected, everything else was cool)

i've also enrolled in adv. figure drawing at concept design academy.
it's a great place, and i'm really enjoying my time spent around it
4 hours of figure drawing on friday nights,
and to back it up,
i'm starting to attend figure drawing workshops at nucleus in alhambra (three hours)!
i just had my first workshop there a couple hours ago.
(close to the end though my stomach started to ache and i could barely focus.
it's all good though!)

so i'll definitely have more figure drawing up at the very least!

Bleargh

been a while since i posted any actual art on here.

i've been so eager to try and do just that,
especially after a friend shared some photoshop tips with me just recently.
so i've been experimenting mainly with brushes for just now.

this is based off of ashley wood's apparel concept for halo 3.
(another artist to add to my list of inspirations; his pieces pertty crazy.
i think he has perhaps the most unique style i've ever seen.
if you haven't seen his stuff, go.

if you zoom in on this it looks like unintelligible monkey scribbles tried to make art.
but from futher away it looks fine, so i must be doing something right!
:P

(I'M SORRY ASH!!! D:)

the Finale

wow. i haven't posted since the 31st of May.
really sorry for the lack of artwork as of late especially.
i've been pretty busy with school.

but at this point,
i only have 17 hours before i walk across a stage to recieve my diploma,
and finally be done with high school.
but i don't really feel excited, or scared.
just relieved.
i guess it hasn't really hit me yet.
but i'm going to expect myself to wake up
around 8 on monday morning, expecting to go to school,
then going "wait. now what?"

but, it doesn't feel too long ago that i graduated from middle school.
and now i'm leaving high school.
i'm not scared of graduating,
but the fact that these four years of my life have gone by in a flash,
really freaks me out.
time goes by almost too fast for me to catch up with.

but i'm definitely going to miss everyone i've met over the past few years.
no doubt about it.

on a different note,
i'm enrolled in Concept Design Academy's Adc. Figure Drawing class!
yay! (it's going to be my second figure drawing class ever)
theres a blog for it, but i think its restricted only to our class members.
but i'll make sure to put up stuff from it!

Torq Practice Set (Fail Set)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4XW780OP

Sunday night.
Instead of doing my English or Econ homework,
I spent an hour trying to practice mixing on Torq.
I still havent gotten used to it,
but beatmatching on it is for some reason easier than on VDJ.
-_____-

But this was a really messy set.
Like... bad.
The powers that be did not have me do well on this one.
Transitions were terrible, and I screwed up the effects in some places.
Its been my off week I guess.
Or, I was talking to Elvin about this,
and he says this, in fob speak status,
"Well its bcuz you have been practicing way too hard bro :)
you need to let it flow to you don push it it is all about having fun :)"

Haha I guess that could be another reason too.
Even though it was a pretty off set, I see no other reason not to put it out there.
Maybe you guys can tell me if it's actually some technical thing that I'm missing.
I don't know.

I... hope you guys enjoy the set?
:P

Your's truly.

Practice Set

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4ZMGAMVD

Tuesday night. Bit tired. Had a long day.
Buuut... I had that urge to mix a little bit and practice around 10 at night.
What was originally supposed to be just a short practice session
turned into a pretty decent hour long mix (I think).
A lot of good vocal trance to be found here. Makes me happy.
:D

I didn't spam effects (as much) this time around.
:P

Enjoy the set!

mad weekend

holy crap its been a long while since i've posted anything.
more than a week.

the reason being that this was a pretty hectic week

i had my school's film festival submission deadline coming (moondance)
and i was pretty much editingk, filming, and doing nothing but more editing
my film for the past couple of days (since friday at 9:30 a.m.)
since then i havent slept until at least 4 each day,
and had to wake up at 8 to get stuff done.
i've been staring at the computer so much,
my eyes almost want to bleed.
:[

buut this will come to an end pretty soon (hopefully)

on the plus side i picked up a piece of equipment for djing.
an m-audio x session pro midi controller/mixer.
i've spun a little before in collaboration
with my good friend Elvin Ong, aka jellybeanx,
but just yesterday night actually i made my first mix alone.
and i think for a first timer,
mad awesome.
just 20 minutes ago too i made a full hour on mix.

but heres the first one i did,
most of its pretty clean, with the exception of the end track.
i messed up a bit there.
i asked a friend for input, but he says he didn't notice.
shrugs*
let's see what you guys think.
half hour mix, four songs.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TINARM3U

ill upload my other one tomorrow
:]
