Reference Pages for Fantasy Creatures

Pulling tons of images of different animals, people, costumes, and such for reference to create a fantasy oriented creature in Jerad's creature design class.

Yeh there's a lot. And I also just realized I repeated a monkey face. Lol.

Creature Design Wk. 4 Hw - Again

Yeh... I didn't get to do a paintover... Just managed to get in another sketch but I passed out soon after I finished that. -sigh-

Edit:
Here's a very quick (I mean very) paintover just now. Literally a couple brush strokes and two other layers in like 5 minutes. Haha. It's looks like I was just getting black chalk and white Prisma over it. Only without the mess!

Creature Design Wk. 4 Hw

Phase two of this week's Creature Design homework. Take our sketches, scan them, and throw a sepia-esque tone over them. Phase one was to sketch them with Prisma, and phase three is to paint over them. And that's gonna be hard. Eeee.

Well, if Jerad can do it in like two hours as a demo, I should be able to do it in like six right? Haha... -___-

Pumpkinhead Interpretation

I needs help with the chest area guys. Don't know what to do with it.

For Jerad's class, once again. This is supposed to be my interpretation of Pumpkinhead, a witch-summoned demon from the bowels of my stomach. Err, I mean hell. Suggestions on how I can take it further to make it a functional piece would be nice guys. :]

Dog-Beast-Thing

I just felt like putting up something. Originally done for Jerad's Creature Design class at CDA, but this is nothing close to menacing or scary for a horror film. Neither does it look like some kind of werewolf, which is one of the creatures we were supposed to recreate.

Good Game Art Center

So you know how I posted earlier that Art Center sent a letter saying we'll know in two weeks whether we got in or not right? One of my buddies called the admissions office yesterday and found out that letter applies not to Entertainment but to other majors instead... Entertainment applicants don't know until a month after. God damnit. And I was planning on checking my mail today too, throw us off on another loop why don't you...

Good game Art Center. Good game.

On another note, welcome to March guys!

Env. Design @ CDA Week 3 HW - Neverending Story

Ey everyone! Been a while since I last posted. I'm still waiting on that acceptance package from Art Center... it's supposed to come in somewhere around Tuesday this coming week. Eee.

Anyways to give you guys something new to look at, in my Environment Design class with Rodney at CDA: I'm doing a modern take on the Neverending Story. In this fable there's a world in the book that runs parallel to ours called Phantásien. Phantásien itself is slowly being consumed by the Nothing, which results from the lack of imagination as well as positive feelings experienced by those in the Real World.

This week we pulled references from wherever to base the world we create upon, and did thumbnails/ideations to explore compositions.

I used highly congested metropolitan cities with high populations (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul). The idea was that the the congestion itself causes discomfort within the populace, easily allowing for the presence of the Nothing in Phantásien.

Karl Konrad Koreander's bookstore. To me, old bookstores with wooden ladders and shelves and the smell of old texts have a certain magic to them, so I looked at those for reference.

The Ivory Tower is the home of the Childlike Empress/Moonchild. I referenced a lot of Middle Eastern palaces and mosques because they are very distinct yet simple. I also imagined a lot of white stone or marble accented with gold or granite.

And the ideations/thumbnails for some compositions I'm interested in doing for the project.

Yeh. Thanks for viewing yo!

It's Spring!

Or close to it anyhow. Little bit from my Environment Design class with Rodney at CDA for you guys.

The point of the assignment was to do a value/composition study of a film still, and then to do a reinterpretation of that composition. This one is taken from the near end of the film when the station blows. I think I overdid it on the value study though, I don't think i was supposed to have more than 3-5 values. Heh.

I'm a bit behind on homework for those CDA classes. That portfolio for ACCD left me dead tired, and I'm a bit sick now too. AND, my computer had been freaking out on me and freezing every couple minutes so I had to do a mega reboot and reinstall everything... > < Have to catch up soon, on top of classes at Pcc...

Two Weeks!

Eeeeee! Two weeks! Just got a letter today saying they have all my materials and they are completing my admissions file. I'll know in two weeks whether I got in or not. > <

PORTFOLIO-O-O-O!!!

My entrance portfolio for ACCD is up on Picasa! Check it out guys!

So proud and glad to finally have it in. Heeee. 5 dollars donation to me for viewing guys? Yea? Yea? These past couple of months working on it has left me flat broke. Gaah.

YES

Turned in my portfolio over an hour ago! Finally, that's over and done, and I can actually catch up on sleep now. But I have been working on it constantly since September, and now that I'm done I feel like i have nothing to do. -____-

Thankfully there's two classes at CDA to keep me occupied, and (maybe not so great) I start classes at Pcc again this coming Monday. But for this entire week looks like I'm free to do whatever I want... Maybe even go up and ride on Big Bear. Who knows? Let's see if I can rid myself of this fatigue first.

I have a good feeling I'll be in no problem. Expecting that acceptance letter within a month! :D

Quick Update

Little teaser of how my portfolio is coming along in these final moments. Good stuff, and I'm really excited to finally turn it in on Friday.

1 day, 12 hours, and 30 minutes from this post 'til my intended submission.

Birdie Birdie Birdie.

My mom probably doesn't look at this blog, but happy birthday! Haha.

4 days 'til the day I want to turn in my portfolio. Hopefully I can... If I can't I'll just settle for the 15th...

It's the Fourth

Meaning I have 8 days to finish up that portfolio if I continue to plan on turning it in to Art Center's admissions office on the 12th. I have six out of thirty four pages ready to print right now; making slow progress, but the pages are coming out better than I have hoped. Still gotta haul ass for a couple more days...

And... for a quick teaser...
Wait for it...
...
Ah ha!

Just because I'm so excited for the portfolio and wanted to share something. And update this blog. But wow this file took so damn long to upload. The original files are HUGE, but the .jpeg files are hefty alone too.

Also, on a much more stress-free note, I begin classes at Concept Design Academy again on the 6th! Taking Creature Design on Saturday mornings with Jerad S. Marantz, as well as Environment Design with Rodney Fuentebella the next morning. Anyone else with those classes, hit me up!

Eight days. Eight days.

The Ancient Pirate

WIP for portfolio. Found sitting on the captain's seat aboard the Valor. Just like in that scene from Treasure Planet.

Also changed my mind. Submission on Friday the 12th this month. 11 days.

The Pirate Zeppelin Named "the Valor"

WIP from my portfolio. Eleven days.

Teaser Update

Quick test. I've been getting around to painting digitally for some finalizations in my portfolio. And it feels pretty good so far. Haven't PS painted in a while. It's crazy how much a simple gradient can change a piece. Original render at the bottom.

I decided to submit my portfolio on the 10th this coming month. 12 more days.

To the New Year

Hey everyone sorry for the lack of updates as of late. Been through a lot lately, but new pieces will come very soon.

Recent activities have included going to Japan for six days (the above photo was a little bit of fun I caught on camera while I was there), staying in Guangzhou (China) for another six, working on portfolio (especially important), sleeping late, and eating instant noodles.

Did I mention a portfolio? Of course I did.

This portfolio is for Art Center's Entertainment program. I'm hoping to get in a lot more than the 35-ish pages that I currently have in there. Another 20-25 to be exact. I'm aiming to turn it in on the 10th; the priority deadline runs from the 1st til the 15th of February. I'll have a bunch of work up to make up for the lack of recents posts. Wish me luck everyone!

I've also had a great change of heart and mentality due to a realization I've come to. And I feel great. Happy (belated) New Year everyone! Hope all is well, and that it will last beyond just this year!
