Back in ID

Found some stuff from my old Adv. Prodcut and Transportation Design classes with THE YAO in Art Center's Saturday High program.

I found these when Tony asked me for some sketches from Summer Term 08, when the class worked on construction vehicles. He's going to select some of these, along with other classmates' sketches, to put in the next LA Auto Show. Super awesome!

I would get back into working with color Copics again, but a lot of my markers are missing or low on ink. :[

Another Environment?!

Smackin' down another environment for the Intro class. For the next two weeks (since Thanksgiving means we have our class off) we're going to be doing more interiors and then some storyboards, so I'll have other things to show other than just more environments hopefully. I haven't done any storyboarding since junior year though...
-___-

This one was done in a couple hours while I was sitting at Cha for Tea and then at Starbucks. Just gotta keep more of these value studies until I can start whipping them out in less than an hour each. I wonder how much longer it's gonna take for me to get there...

Solid.

Snake. Snake? SNAAAAKE!!!

More Ash Wood inspiration. Just 'cause he's awesome.

Intro to Ent: Week 10 HW

More homework from my Intro to Entertainment class. These were a few black and white value translations of the environment thumbnails I did in Week 8, painted in Photoshop.

Demo from my instructor Simon Ko (notice how it's better than my other ones) over my thumbnail of the Great Canyon area, with another hour of painting from me thrown on top. Thanks Simon!

The Cave area, where the lost civilization is found in. This one was especially hard, as it's really easy to lose the sense of scale... plus it's a compositional fail.

And the Waterfall area hiding the cave entrance. Meh. All I can say.

And finally something I'm a little better at! Ballpoint pen and Copic marker sketch! This is what the interior of the living quarters I had last time in my pages would look like. Pretty homey. Only thing that bugs me is that the tables and chairs aren't scaled properly.
-_____-

Need to work on digital painting more. Probably still expecting too much from myself I guess. Well... practice makes perfect!

Also, finally added a box of SKB Secretary SB-1000 0.5 ballpoint pens to my tools. Haha. Pretty sexy pens to draw with, almost like a pencil, except with cleaner lines! Thanks Sherwin for helping me get them!

Change of Application Deadline

Art Center just sent me an email saying the priority application deadline for Entertainment Design has been moved a month from March to February. Shiet.

For all you other potential ACCD Ent. Design majors, get crakin' and good luck!

Finally reached the hundred mark! Nothing really special to post up though, save for something else I did in Alchemy...

Happy hundred, and have a good Sunday everyone!

Intro to Ent. Week 8 Homework + Story

ACT I:
Awaken the Being to a World Long Lost,
What he holds his own, only his body and soul,
With naught but this Tale in mind,
He sets afoot to find his story in time.

Along his travels he did cross,
Many strange lands and species that were.
Others join him in his journey,
Eager to have their share in his story.
A Feline most curious (and mischevious no less),
A Maid with the wrench of her father,
And one other Being, much like himself.
Together they traverse a Great Forest,
And across a Grassy Canyon expanse,
'Til they reached the edge at the Sea of Sand.

ACT II:
Across the Desert our Heroes crossed,
'Til the Desert Heat they could bear no more.
At the edge where the Fiery Sands began,
Our Heroes beheld in awe,
An Ancient Pirate's joy, his love, his Valor!
Fueled by the Desert Fire,
The Pirate's joy did soar,
Til it could go no more past the Burning Mountain.

ACT III:
Within its Depths,
The Giant holds a Secret very dear.
At the foot of the Mountain's Graceful Fall,
The Heroes will find the Door,
To the World, Lost and Hidden beneath,
Where our Heroes find a Familiar Face.
First one, then three, then as many as an entire Race!
Together our Heroes discover its secret Treasure,
And thwart the plot of an Evil Lot.

Post ninety-nine. One more 'til a hundred!

Alchemy

Sorry for the lack of posts. Welcome to November everyone.

Just downloaded a new program called Alchemy a friend was telling me about in our Intro to Entertainment class at Art Center Night.

First time messing around with it. It's pretty bizarre, but the concept isn't that hard to understand once you put in like 5 minutes worth of hands-on experience on it.

Check it out at http://al.chemy.org/

"The Alchemy drawing canvas has an intentionally reduced level of functionality. No undo, no selecting, and no editing. Interaction focuses instead on the output of a great number of good, bad, strange and beautiful shapes."

"...as a way to explore and experiment with alternative ways of drawing."

...Pretty crazy shit. Now I don't have to worry about trying to find new ideas if i get an "artist's block" like I so often do. I feel like I can also pull off weird and graphic fine arts stuff like nothing now. :D

Tahoe Ghibli

It's really funny. Me and some buddies had Korean BBQ just last night. Restaraunt name was Tahoe Galbi or something like that but I kept saying Tahoe Ghibli. Mmmmm Totoro meat...

Character Poses

One of the assignments from the Intro to Entertainment Design class I'm taking at Art Center Night. Ideations of poses for each of my characters. Except for my female character cause I haven't worked those out yet. > <
But she will come soon. :P

I hate you color change. Will fix it in a bit.
Sorry for the lack of work up here. Been busy much since I got my car!!! :D

Sony MDR-V700DJ Headphones!

My headphones came in today! I walked into work today and first thing I did was look under my mom's desk to find

This...

And I opened it...

To pull out this...

Sexy mother-shutyourmouth.

It's just awesome. I love my new headphones. Next to get the Hercules RMX! Sorry for the shoddy picture quality btw, I took them on my phone's camera and computer webcam. Because I couldn't find my own camera even after ten minutes of searching.

A Rant for the Sake of Letting it Out.

I think that, despite how good my life is in the general perspective, my mind is going through so much mental stress, enough so that it could almost tip the balance in my life towards that favor.

Don't get me wrong. I love everything I'm doing right now.
Being a college student is great; you have to study, but at the same time you meet people from all different walks of life because you're not restricted by age differences.
Then there's me, in addition to working as a graphic designer at my parent's place, trying to become a freelance artist. But it's also hard because there's so much in my life that demands my attention...
Then there's Tsunami, me and Elvin's collaborative trance DJ team. There's so much we're doing to get out there, we've already got so much that other DJs who within a year haven't been able to do what took us literally two months to get to. Mashing up tracks, trying to make our own acapellas with vocalists we know... It's great.
Then there's my career goal in life, to become an concept designer in the entertainment industry. But I have to work on my portfolio, submit it and apply to Art Center for the Fall 2010 term, before that can come close to happening... And it's going to be another 5 years before I think I will be where I want to be career-wise.

There's so much going on right now, I get frustrated so easily just because there's so many things I'm inching towards, but because of the number of things that can happen, I don't think it's happening fast enough. And that gets me. Hard. And I'm also growing up too fast I'm told. And I always say "age is a matter of the mind" but sometimes I can't help but feel I have grown way past than just an 18 year old; I feel like I'm 26, and I've also ostracized myself from people my own age as a result of that.

And I think I could definitely get to where I want to be, so much faster, if only I'm allowed to. Because I'm 18, because I still live with my parents... I'm grateful for everything they do for me. But they're narrow minded. I want to live my life to the best I can, to do everything I love and dream. But they don't want me to go, because they fear what they don't know. Or maybe they just don't want to let me go. It's funny though, because my dad always threatens to boot me out of the house when I reach adulthood. But... I'm still here. The things that take the worst toll on my state of mind is all the small things they do to keep from other bigger pictures. Like not wanting me to go out when I want to go meet other artists, when they say they would get me a used car couple weeks ago, so I can do things on my own. Yet where is my damn car? And then there's my mom, doing small things like taking an hiding all of my lighters (what the hell?). Small insignificant things like that, which when summed up all together, make a big difference. But I'm an adult now, for crying out loud.

I think that's one of the worst things a parent can do, to defy and not believe in what is their child's dreams. They want what's best for their child, don't get me wrong, and I for one am grateful for that. But they forget, that we, their heirs, their sons and daughters, have our own dreams to pursue, and those don't come without risks...

Sorry I just had to rant, and it helps to let it all out. Speaking of which, Lange has a new single with Sarah Howells called "Let It All Out," and it's an amazing tune. The Ronski Speed Mix definitely gets me every time. Enough tangents though. Sorry for this long rant of a post of nothing but text, I'll have something less depressing for me to talk about tomorrow.. (Insert sad smile here.)

Thumbnails Galore.

Yeh. Finished them this morning. On top of 17 units worth of classes at Pcc, taking my drive test yesterday (which I thankfully passed) and preparing for the weekend. Been working hard, and since Sunday I've been living on an average of 4 hours of sleep a day.

The Hero.

The Heroine (I hope I spelled that right...)

The Sidekick.
alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383767049153350498" />
The Anti-Hero.

And the evil Merchant.

The problem is that they are a bit generic though... Too much Skillful Huntsman I guess. I'm coming up with new stuff for next week's pages.

I managed to get by on coffee and energy drinks and Rhodolia energy pills. I actually wish I had another row of thumbnails on each page; there was enough space for them. But time is always against everyone...
